The City marked off the dimensions of the sidewalk widening project in Corona del Mar last week. I pedaled on over to see what all the commotion was about.
To me this is a great innovation in pedestrian space, but first the City wants to test the impact of moving a choke point, from 3-lanes to two-, about 2 blocks further west. On paper, this should be equivalent and that’s how things looked at 2pm Sunday — lots of cars trying to get to the coast, but everything was moving smoothly.
I have to admit, as a cyclist I’m happy to see the heavy weekend traffic — it slows everyone down a little making the route safer for bicyclists.
