It’s one way to spend a Saturday morning — the City Council is having its annual planning meeting. It started at 8:30 and is still going strong at 10:30. As we gather at the Oasis Center, we enjoy a panoramic view of the beautiful day outside.

We’ve seen a lot of slides about budgets and reserves. I learned that sales tax revenues from auto sales is the biggest wedge in that pie chart. When you combine the revenue with the City’s emphasis on road and alley repairs, you see another aspect of our automobile-saturated society.

Good news, there’s a lot of bike safety improvement items sprinkled throughout. Of course, the discussions of creating a Bicycle Master Plan are so recent that a comprehensive strategy is missing. Hopefully the BMP will be addressed soon.
