“That exceded my expectations,” was what I heard several times Monday evening as the Newport Beach Citizens Bicycle Safety Committee wound to a close. The Police Department put on quite a show, the focus on crash data for the past five years, presented by Sgt. Psaros.

Read the minutes.

  1. GREAT presentation by Sgt. Psaros. I wish the public could have seen it, to learn how cyclists are being hit, and why sharrows are being recommended.

NBPD says Newport Bl. and Via Lido is one of our 3 worst intersections for bike crashes. I’ve been walking through it every day lately, and the bridge over PCH. It’s obvious the city has not paid attention to bike and pedestrian safety here in many years, despite plenty of both at all hours. I have a blog post about this coming soon.

I really appreciate NBPD’s enforcement efforts against cell phone use and DUI — cyclists’ biggest threats.
