It started in Columbia, bike advocates working with city leaders to close streets on Sundays so pedestrians and cyclists can play. Now cities around the world host their own Cyclovia; I attended Tucson’s in the Spring. Yesterday Los Angeles hosted their 3rd CicLAvia; Jason Song reporting for the LA Times estimates yesterday’s fun-seeking crowd at 130,000.

Bike Religion’s John Tzinberg asked me, “Maybe one of these for Newport?”

The Newport Beach Bike Safety Committee once imagined a Ciclovia along 17th Street, but when Costa Mesa baulked no alternate route was considered and the plan died.

What’s your opinion? Where would be a good Ciclovia route in Newport Beach?
