Wes Parsel

OCTA‘s bike lord, Wes Parsel, convened a group of advocates to discuss options for this year’s Bike Month.

The meeting was refreshingly frank — OCTA wasn’t real happy with the outcome of last year’s rally at UCIrvine; they’d like to see a bigger turnout. This year the Huntington Beach Pier Plaza will be the center of attention, to get Everyman’s attention, that is. The big gains in reducing Vehicle Miles Traveled lie in convincing ordinary folks to get out and ride to work. The lycra crowd gets it; those semi-pro athletes that ride in groups, but our group yesterday was quick to agree that few ordinary folks can relate.

“Real People Ride,” is a campaign that UCI is about to launch; we all wanted use the same title.

The Angels play the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday May 6th at 12:30pm. Save the date and let’s plan to ride to the Big A starting at the Newport pier. It’ll be a fun way to kickoff National Bike Month.
