ghost bike

Cyclists gathered this morning to remember Paul Lin who was killed while riding on November 6, 2013 at Marguerite Ave. at San Joaquin Hills Drive here in Newport Beach.

There was an impromptu flower ceremony, donuts were passed around. The Church on the corner offered beverages and a place to store a bike during the curbside remembrance.

I attended with Michael Glenn who’s running for Mike Henn’s seat on the City Council representing the peninsula. We had planned to ride the route along the Pre-Thanksgiving Back Bay Loop Ride – more about that in another post.

I recognized several friends and met new ones during the gathering. It was a heartbreaking experience to overhear Paul’s girlfriend, who was on the ride with him, console a friend as they both wept.
